“From concept to application” – third CiSEP workshop on EU Project Cycle Management took place in Kyiv

From 4-6 July the third workshop of IEPs training series “Training the Trainers on EU Project Cycle Management” was successfully implemented in Kyiv by Martin Stein, project manager at IEP. The trainings are part of IEPs ongoing work (Civic School for Sound EU Practice – CiSEP) to strengthen the capacity of Ukraine’s civil society in the framework of the EU-Ukraine association process.

To apply for funding to the European Union and to manage EU funded projects, the EU Project Cycle is the guide to do so. The first two trainings provided the 30 participants with the skills and tools to look for funding opportunities develop their project ideas and prepare a Logical Framework Matrix, an overview of the overall objectives, the purpose, results and activities of their projects. This third workshop was dedicated to the Concept Note, a brief written summary of the project idea. Through presentations, group works and a role play, conducted by a trainer from the Department for the EU State Aid Programme to BiH in Sarajevo, the participants gained valuable insights in how the concept note is structured, the do’s and don’ts while writing and of course regarding the formulation.

As the training series is a Training-the-Trainers, the participants also received the opportunity to improve their presentation skills (both digitally and analogously) to effectively pass on their knowledge to their fellow colleagues in their trainer roles.

Throughout this and also the last workshop the participants showed plenty of enthusiasm and proved their willingness to work hard during and in-between the workshops.

The training series is organised in close cooperation with the Polissya Foundation for International and Regional Studies and part of the larger IEP Capacity Building project on EU-Association-Trainings in Ukraine which is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.

The next workshop will take place from 8-10 August again in Lviv.

  1. My close friends know that I am willing to comment or write a response only when some situation really impresses me positively or negatively.
Therefore, after a visit to Kyiv for the third workshop of the Training the Trainers on EU Project Cycle Management called «From concept to application: Programming III» I decided to write my mind.
Honestly, I am impressed by both the trainers and the team of participants.
Let me start with the trainers first: Nevena Marilovic is very tender and charismatic person, who simply, calmly and with all the kindness explained us everything, and taught us to fill in the concept note or to define major stakeholders, and provided examples form her own experience. I was also impressed by the fact that in the course of preparation to our event she read all our LFM matrixes and introduced her corrections and amendments, not forgetting about the praise for some teams :). Nevena also used a good approach, when she allowed us, the participants, to make our own suggestions for the project applications of other groups. Yes, some were just making suggestions, some were stressing the flaws and some were criticizing. But this is really authentic experience and possibility to see pros and cons of the team and good chance to correct the mistakes.
I met Karol Mojkowski for the second time. To start, I was very glad to see his name in the program among the speakers, because I remembered his speeches in Lviv. I am impressed by his attitude to conducting the trainings, his preparation and search for information, ability to provide precise examples and presentation of material. Honestly, I would really like to conduct trainings at the same high level. I learned a lot form his presentations. I still keep all the information he presented in my head and contemplate, where I can use some particular method in practice. Of course, some examples of delivering presentations in scientific sphere of Ukraine may seem shocking, but I want to try it anyway. 🙂 I saw my minuses in information presentation and conducting of trainings, I learned a lot, I will use all the knowledge he provided me with.
Martin Stein as always thoughtfully, calmly and with understanding accepts «Ukrainian punctuality» and we are grateful to him for that! His courtesy and culture of treating Ukrainian symbolic captivates and impresses me, being form Lviv. His positive attitude and smile also please the eye. Information and educational materials provided by Martin are always presented professionally and at high level and very exciting.
What can I say about the team of CiSEP participants? I can easily call us a CiSEP-family!!! You are wonderful!!! With every meeting I understand that we become supporting hand, advisors, experience transmitters and assistants to each other!!! You can specially feel it and compare attitude to yourself, support and sense of help when you are vulnerable. I sensed it this time when I felt physically weak!!! You are great!!! I am grateful for support and your worries about me! I am really happy to be in the CiSEP team and meet you!
I look forward to meeting you all in Lviv!!!
